Where wine meets wonder: ConceptFolding 77 transforms Quoin Rock wine estate

Nestled in the heart of Stellenbosch’s renowned wine country, Quoin Rock Wine Estate stands as a testament to architectural innovation and natural beauty. When architect Dr Yuliya Gaiduk was tasked with transforming the estate’s former warehouse into a stunning Venue Hall, she knew that conventional solutions wouldn’t suffice. The vision was ambitious: create a space where 200 guests could immerse themselves in the breathtaking Stellenbosch landscape while enjoying world-class hospitality. Reynaers Aluminium’s ConceptFolding 77 and Concept System 68 proved to be the perfect solutions, seamlessly blending indoor elegance with outdoor splendour.

Seamless indoor-outdoor living

The transformation of Quoin Rock’s warehouse required replacing solid brick walls with expansive glass surfaces that would flood the space with natural light and panoramic views. The ConceptFolding 77 system’s robust aluminium construction made it possible to achieve the impressive floor-to-ceiling glazing that defines the Venue Hall today. With its superior structural integrity and sleek profile, the CF 77 system supports massive glass panels while maintaining the clean, contemporary aesthetic that complements the estate’s rustic charm. The folding panels neatly stack to one side, creating an uninterrupted opening that allows guests to flow seamlessly between the interior dining space and the surrounding vineyard terraces.

“To emphasise the connection to the surrounding nature, we decided to replace the existing brick walls with large aluminium-framed windows. This really brings in the light and the landscape around us.” – Dr Yuliya Gaiduk, Architect

“The aluminium systems by Reynaers Aluminium are of a thicker standard and have stronger sections, making impressive glass heights possible” – Stephan Swanepoel

Engineering excellence meets natural beauty

The ConceptFolding 77 system’s advanced engineering capabilities were essential to achieving the architect’s vision of a 360-degree connection to nature. The system’s thicker standard sections and reinforced framework enabled the installation of impressive glass heights that would have been impossible with conventional folding systems. Each panel operates with effortless precision, despite the substantial size and weight of the glazed elements.

The smooth folding mechanism ensures that event staff can easily reconfigure the space throughout the day, opening the venue to mountain breezes during afternoon functions or closing it for intimate evening gatherings.

The system’s exceptional thermal insulation properties also ensure year-round comfort, crucial for a venue that hosts events across Stellenbosch’s varied seasonal conditions.

A new standard for hospitality venues

The success of the Quoin Rock project demonstrates how thoughtful system selection can elevate a space from merely functional to truly transformational. The ConceptFolding 77 installation has created more than just a venue; it has crafted an experience where guests become part of the landscape they’re celebrating. The aluminium frames’ subtle presence allows the natural beauty of the Stellenbosch mountains and vineyards to take centre stage, while their robust performance ensures reliable operation even with frequent daily use during busy event seasons. The result is a space where wine tastings become immersive experiences, weddings feel like celebrations of the landscape itself, and corporate events benefit from an inspiring backdrop that energises and motivates attendees.
